Our Activities

Since 1997, we have been supporting various communities across Madagascar. In 2012, we focused on the Atsimo-Andrefana region, where we witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by the local population. We decided to concentrate most of our aid in Toliara, Anakao, Ankoronga, Beheloka, and Marofijery. Poverty is a major issue in this part of the island, exacerbated by severe famine and the effects of climate change, including destructive cyclones.

Toliara is the capital of the province of the same name and the Atsimo-Andrefana region. It overlooks the Mozambique Channel and is crossed by the Tropic of Capricorn.

Ankoronga is about 15 km east of Toliara. The area lies on the edge of a vast, arid, hot, and dusty land, one of the poorest in all of Madagascar. The primary source of income for the villages in this area is stone-breaking.

Madiorano is a small fishing community located approximately 35 km north of Toliara. The primary occupation of its residents is fishing.

Ankilimalangy is a village located 70 kilometres from Toliara. The region is very arid, which makes farming difficult and limits the sources of income, which come mainly from coal production.

Anakao and Beheloka are Vezo fishing villages situated in Saint Augustin Bay, between 50 and 80 km south of Toliara. In addition to fishing and related activities, residents earn income from trading dry wood and limited agriculture.

Marofijery is in the rural commune of Efoetse, about 100 km from Toliara in the country’s southwest. The land here is arid, and rainfall is scarce. The villagers rely on agriculture, which barely suffices for their needs.
